Mount Rinjani trekking route recommended 2023
There are several routes on Rinjani. The three main routes are as follows: from Sembalun Lawang on the east side, from Senaru on the north side and from the Torean trekking route on the middle side of the mountain.
Sembalun Track Route
Starting in the morning from the Rinjani Trek Center in the village, the ascent to Plawangan II at 2,638 m will take around 8 hours via POSI (1,300 m), POSII (1,500 m) and POSIII (1,800 m).
The initial altitude is 1100 m, so there are no damp conditions to deal with. The first half or so of the trip is really easy.wekepedia
The ride through the savannah grasslands is windy and relaxed, with gentle ebbs and flows, and the only obstacle to watch out for is the “cow pats” kept by the villagers’ cows along the way.
The hills and stunning views help relieve fatigue, unlike the tropical rainforest covered Senaru trail. From POS 2 to POS 3 the climb can still be passed. The challenge for the Sembalun route is from POS 3 to POS Extra, because the uphill slope can sometimes be 50 degrees.
Young children will find this section challenging as some of the steps are set quite apart. The cooler weather here might give the impression that the body doesn’t need fluids, but drink more to prevent altitude sickness.
Surprisingly, there is a man selling cold drinks (Pocari sweat, Coke etc) here at the campsite for exorbitant prices (Rp 40,000 per drink) for those who crave them. Overnight at camp here and head to the summit from 3am the next morning. You should rest well because this is a tough task – the final climb is almost 1100m on tough ground.
Senaru Track Route
This is by far the most used route as it allows for a (relatively) less strenuous walk to the rim of the crater only. You start at 600m in Senaru village, usually in the morning or evening and make the 6-hour hike to the crater rim before dark.
The first part of the journey is through a tropical rain forest. See and hear the langurs, or black monkeys, swinging through the trees early in the morning.
Torean Track Route
New trekking route from Torean village 40 minutes from Senaru village West Lombok. The Torean trekking route is very popular for trekkers who want to go straight to the lake on the same day. The track is flatter than the Senaru route or from Sembalun, but the trekking route is longer than other trekking routes. It takes about 9 hours to walk in total, from the starting point to the lake camping area. The trail is great and fantastic. After the 2018 earthquake this trekking route is the most used route as it allows for a (relatively) less strenuous walk to the lake. We will start at 585 m in Torean village in the morning and do the 9-10 hour hike to the LAKE before dark. The first part of the journey is through a tropical rain forest. We will find Lutung or black monkey, swinging between the trees in the morning. They are very shy, unlike the common apes which may congregate near resting places waiting for leftovers. The route passes the ENTRY AT 779m, crosses the tree line at 821m (POS I) and then a bit longer to the next track (POST 2) Jackfruit Row At 1.078m and from this point to enter the next Stop we pass the famous waterfall (water Penimbungan waterfall) at an altitude of 1,299m. Continue walking to (post 3) 1,355 m and still walk up to Pelawangan Torean (babanan propok) 1585m And after the water break at Propok we continue walking up and down the hill to the camp lake 2,000m. We offer three choices of trekking packages starting from Torean village to Senaru village or Sembalun village. All trekking options will present a different view and atmosphere
